Yesterday the lovely Sally over at Sally Akins has challenged me to take part in the ’10 reasons to be happy’ tag. This post has really made me think about the year ahead and realise how much I have to look forward to. Read on to see which I picked out as my favourite reasons to be happy this year.
Our grumble was more of a duo up until February this year when we rescued Betty. I devote the majority of my spare money and time to this trio of troublemakers. While each of the pugs test my patience every day I honestly wouldn’t change them for the world. All three of the grumble have very different characters, but all three make me laugh heartily on a daily basis.
Me and Scott have been together a few years now and have now decided to save for a mortgage. It’s slow going though because we like to treat ourselves throughout the year to things we like, such as a new sofa or a two week holiday.
My mum and sister both live locally to me so I get to see them often. We enjoy going out for lunch together and sometimes we even go to the bingo to kill a bit of time. My mum absolutely adores her “grand-dogs” and treats them on their birthdays and at Christmas. My sister has recently got engaged and has made me her maid of honour, so I’m very excited to help her plan her wedding this year.
This year we’re travelling quite a bit. We’re off to Spain next month for a family holiday. It will be the first holiday I’ve been on with my mum in about 10 years and I think it’ll be a great holiday. Scott and I are also off to the Philippines for a short holiday in October. I’m really looking forward to lapping up the sun on the beaches of Cebu for 6 days. We’re also planning a mid-week break to the New Forest or Cornwall with the dogs this summer. I’m hoping we can go at the end of June as this will be a nice birthday treat for me.
Redesigning our home
We rent our home at the moment but are saving the money to buy the property. It’s a cute little bungalow with a big lounge and kitchen, and a huge garden. Right now the floor is carpeted so we’re on a mission to choose some lovely solid wood flooring which will go well with the petrol blue fabric Chesterfield sofa we have arriving in a few days. We also plan to install a log burner and have both the kitchen and bathroom refitted. I’m really excited about redesigning our home, particularly because it means I an go shopping for new homeware!
Another thing that I have to be happy about is this little blog of mine. I started the blog in February 2017 after realising that I don’t really have any regular hobbies. I thought this this would be the perfect place to write about the dogs and our adventures. It’s been going well so far but I never realised how much work was involved with blogging. It’s been an eye-opener, that’s for sure!
Summer for us means endless barbecues in our garden and walking the dogs on their favourite beach. Betty hasn’t visited a beach yet, but Barry and George love to spend the day paddling in the sea. This year we also hope to take the dogs camping at a local campsite, so we’ve bought ourselves a huge tent in preparation. We love to dine al fresco in the garden after work and our garden is perfect for it as we get the sun until quite late in the evening. The pugs are complete sun-worshippers so I think that summer is their favourite time of the year too.
I was wondering whether to include this one because our finances are by no means perfect at the moment. Having said this, we are in a much better place financially than we were last year. We’ve managed to save some money and can also afford our home renovations, so I’m looking forward to this year much more than last year.
The Isle of Wight
I have to admit that I rarely give the Isle of Wight the credit it deserves. It’s a wonderful lace to live with an incredibly low crime rate. The majority of pubs and cafes here are super dog-friendly, so we can take our dogs out with us for the day. In the summer it can get really warm here, and we’re surrounded by beaches on all sides, so we get to spend a lot of time enjoying the weather. There’s also miles and miles of forest and farmland here, which make great dog walking spots for the mutts.
2017 will forevermore be the year that I gave up caffeine. I’m about 3 weeks in at the moment and I’m feeling a thousand times better for it. I have completely given up coffee and have switched to decaf tea. I’ve also started drinking more herbal and green teas, which are absolutely delicious! I’m going to carry on this small change throughout the year and make some more healthy changes when I feel up to it. I usually have a hard time dieting because I do everything at once, then feel overwhelmed and give up within a few weeks. This year I’m planning to make small but positive changes which I can carry on with throughout the year and hopefully continue for life.
So there we have my 10 reasons to be happy this year. I’m spreading the love and tagging Angela at Cosmic Kick, Lauren at These City Days and Ayesha at Eesha’s Glam to share their own reasons to be happy.
