9 Amazing Places That Are Sure to Give You Major Wanderlust

Itchy Feet.

With January finally over and 2016 nothing but a distant memory, It’s usually around this time of year that I start to get itchy feet. My travel bucket list is growing by the minute. Literally. There are just so many breathtaking destinations to choose from that sometimes it can be hard to pick just one. I’ve rounded up my top 9 amazing countries, cities and sights that are sure to give you major wanderlust.

1. Bamboo Forest of Arashiyama, Kyoto, Japan.

I’ve only just discovered the Bamboo Forest so it’s the newest destination on my list. Japan itself has always been high on my list as it’s one of my dreams to see the cherry blossoms in Osaka. The Bamboo Forest of Kyoto made my bucket list because I think it would be a beautiful place to take a stroll on a warm day.

2. Waitomo Glowworm Caves, New Zealand.

The Waitomo caves have been on my wish list for years! I imagine it would be a surreal experience in there as it just looks so incredibly beautiful, like they’ve come straight out of a CGI film. I just hope that this cave is the cool type, I’ve been in some very deep, very warm caves before and the humidity was stifling!

3. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia.

Another long-standing site on my list of dream destinations, the Plitvice National Park is one of my absolute favourites. The lakes and small waterfalls look stunning. This one’s definitely on my to-do for 2017!

4. Malé Atoll, The Maldives.

Every time anyone asks me what I would do if I won the lottery, I instantly start daydreaming about the Maldives. It’s just one of those destinations – pure luxury and indulgence. I’m not sure if I’ll ever manage to afford to go to the Maldives, but I’m happy to keep daydreaming of it for the foreseeable future.

5. The Rainbow Mountains of Zhangye National Geopark, China.

How amazing do the Rainbow Mountains look? There are many places in China that I’d love to visit, but this one made my list because I don’t know anyone who’s ever been here, or even had anyone mention it to me. If you’re looking for something a bit under-the-radar, then the Rainbow Mountains could be right up your street!

6. Torres del Paine National Park, Patagonia, Chile.

I’ve always said that if I ever made it out to South America then Chile would be my first stop. There are hundreds of beautiful places that I dream of visiting in Chile, but the Torres del Paine is right up there with the best of them. I don’t often take nature holidays, but I’d be all up for spending a few weeks hiking through this gorgeous landscape.

7. Salar de Uyuni, Daniel Campos Province, Bolivia.

The Salt Flats made my list after some friends of mine went backpacking through Bolivia. They visited the salt flats, and the photos they shared made the place look just incredible. Granted there’s not a great deal to do here, but a day trip out to see the natural beauty of Salar de Uyuni would be well worth it in my book.

8. Yosemite Valley, California, USA.

There’s a huge number of American destinations on my list, but in my opinion this one tops them all. This is another destination for which I would ditch my flip-flops and happily don a pair of hiking boots to explore the outstanding beauty of the Yosemite Valley.

9. Bangkok, Thailand.

Bangkok is the only destination of the 9 featured in this post that I’ve been to. More than that, I actually keep going back to Bangkok. It’s a wild, vibrant city that it perfect for every kind of traveller. From temples to markets, lady-boys to nail salons, sky bars to aquariums, there is something in Bangkok for everyone. The only downside to Bangkok is that there’s just so much do that it can be a bit overwhelming at first. Tripadvisor and Lonely Planet are great for putting together a little itinerary for Bangkok, so you can fit as much in as physically possible!

I hope you’ve enjoyed this round-up of my some of my favourite awe-inspiring destinations around the world – maybe you’ve even found a new destination for your bucket list!

I’d love to know your thoughts! Maybe you’ve visited one of these destinations before, or they’re already on your bucket list? Or maybe you have some amazing destinations of your own that I haven’t included on this list. If so I’d love to hear them in the comments below!
